Roger Patulny is a Professor of Sociology at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He co-founded the Australian Sociological Association (TASA) Thematic Group on the Sociology of Emotions and Affect (SEA).
He has published widely on the topics of emotions, social capital, social inclusion and connection, gender, social networks, volunteering and trust. He completed the ARC Discovery 2009-11: ‘Poor Women and Lonely Men: Examining Gendered Social Inclusion and Connection in Australia’, concerned with gendered patterns and emotional wellbeing associated with social connection, exclusion, and daily time-use patterns. He also contributed to and co-edited the 2012 Special Edition on ‘Emotions in Social Life and Social Policy’ for the Australian Journal of Social Issues, and the 2015 Special Sections on the Sociology of Emotions for Emotion Review. he has most recently published the edited collection Emotions in Late Modernity.
